Starting next week, consumers can get their hands on Samsung's virtual reality headset.

Oculus announced Samsung's Gear VR, which is powered by the VR company's technology, will ship on November 20 with pre-orders kicking off Tuesday. The device costs $99, and can be purchased through Samsung's website as well as Amazon and Best Buy.

The headset is compatible with Samsung's Galaxy S6 line of smartphones and the Galaxy Note 5.

The content available on Gear VR leans heavily toward games and video. Several VR-enabled games will be available for Gear VR, and users can access video apps including Netflix, Twitch and Vimeo.

Gear VR helps kick off the rush of virtual reality headsets expected to launch over the next year. The Oculus Rift headset is slated to ship some time next year, as will Sony's PlayStation VR.
