The Moto E is Motorola’s new low cost smartphone that begins at just $99 for a 3G version and $149 for one with 4G LTE.

ERRATA - The phone is $99 from prepaid carriers but Moto's price is $120 for the 3G version.

What’s siginfiicant about this price is that it’s not carrier subsidized - the price is the price of the phone. So it’s possible to get a very functional name brand smart phone running Android 5.0 Lollipop without a contract for under $200.

Overall build quality is really nice, complete with a 4.5” high dpi retina-style display, gorilla glass, and a battery that will last through a full work day of moderate usage.

The Moto E is lacking when it comes to high end gaming. But in my testing it was able to run a number of casual games well and should be decent for all but the most modern AAA titles. I was impressed with how well it ran most apps. Very impressive device.

This is a tremendous value especially that Motorola hit this price point without having to rely on a carrier subsidy.
