The Comica CVM-R3 smartphone handle grip is basically a handle that you can use to hold your microphone in one hand, as well as attach a LED with and a microphone. Having an LED mount is useful for shooting in dark environments, and being able to have a microphone allows you to use better audio capture for the videos that you shoot with your smartphone.

Construction & Build Quality

The construction is solid. It’s make of solid CNC cut metal with no sharp edges, painted black with a copper ring that makes it look quite aesthetically pleasing while still being relatively incognito in appearance.

Intuitively, it uses plastic and silicon rubber where the phone will be placed to prevent scratching. There is also a thin film of black matte silicon rubber on the rubber for a firmer, more secure grip on the rig.

You have the option of mounting an LED on the side or top, and a Microphone on the side or ontop.

Ergonomics of a Smartphone Handle

The Comica CVM-R3 smartphone rig is more ergonomic that holding your phone with your finger tips. And there a much smaller chance that you will drop your smartphone.

However, you end up holding more weight. Which is actually quite fine, given that you are holding it securely in the palm of your hand, wrapping your fingers around the handle.

Also, you can now use a professional microphone and a LED with your rig, improving the audio quality and lighting of the video that you capture with your smartphone. Technically you could use the LED that is provided with the smartphone, but then you would run out of battery quickly and the light that the smartphone uses usually is not sufficiently bright enough for capturing video in the dark.

And the microphone mounting option is very useful, because the microphone on your smartphone might be really bad. Or inadequate. Or maybe you want to capture the audio in a certain polar pattern.
